The most remote origin of the word “Coca” has been found in the Aymaras word “Koka” which simply means “Tree”.
In the Tiwanaku culture, the word “Coca” came from the term “Cuca” which means “plant”.
The Coca plant or tree is cultivated in the western zone of South America, between Peru, Colombia and part of Bolivia. It is also grown today in Brazil, India and Pakistan.
The coca plant or tree can reach 6 meters in height, but for favourable harvesting or picking conditions the branches are lopped so that it only reaches some 2 meters in height.
